Lyngen Alps
Fancy a skiing adventure in the Fjords of Norway under the midnight sun?
Your own charter yacht for a bunch of friends, local crew and private guides!

We are running tailored ski touring trips to the remote Lyngen Fjord area of Norway; a mountainous peninsula covering an area of 810km², above the Arctic Circle. Further North, approaching 70° latitude, islands dotting the North Sea offer peaks accessible only by boat. There is the potential for skiing from 1800 vertical metres right down to the sea.
By April the sun never truly sets! While conditions change from year to year, if last season is anything to go by; you can expect cold winter powder high on the North faces and perfect corn 'ego snow' — sometimes even in the same day.

What to Expect on a Sail and Ski Adventure, Norway.
With a journey in mind but ever flexible; our unique, itinerant lodging allows us to travel in the evenings to anchorages that provide access to the best snow, hoisting the sail when conditions allow. We will ski varied descents and make fresh tracks every day. There is the potential for traversing a mountain and skiing from fjord to neighbouring fjord, with our yacht sailing around to meet us.

The scenery is hard to put into words like something from another epoch. Surreal arctic light renders contrasting bands of snowy white, fjord green and sky blue vistas with the vividness of a dreamscape. We might encounter reindeer, spot some puffins, those shy comic-sad birds, or possibly even a whale; but you are unlikely to see another person.
Tromsø / Lyngen Sail and Ski Trip

Cost per person is €2000 (to be updated to 2010 pricing).
The following is a seven day trip proposal (based on 10 people) for this arctic adventure:

Departing by boat from Tromsø, known as the gateway to the arctic (accessible by direct flight from Oslo), we set sail on the evening of Saturday the 17th April for the Lyngen Alps.
7 nights' accommodation and full catering on the Anne Rogde sailing yacht with WC/showers, laundry facilities and ski storage space, for 10 guests, guides and crew.

6 days of guided ski touring taking advantage of numerous small fishing ports and the best snow conditions. Typically 800 -1300 metres of vertical ascent per day.
Our itinerary is flexible and based on daily discussion with our skipper paying regard to current snow, weather and tidal conditions. The following map on the Cmgblog gives a possible sailing circuit and some of the peaks at our disposal.

2 guides (allows for variations in skiing expectations and ability within the group and provides a greater safety margin).
Other activities include: crewing on the yacht, fantastic photographic opportunities, optional ski touring instructional 'tips and tricks', likely sightings of the Aurora Borealis - Northern Lights (until early April) and time to relax, fish, sleep or socialise in the saloon.
